This action research project focused on the use of infographics in the classroom. After researching the benefits of infographics in the classroom I designed a project for my students. For this project students researched a famous black scientist or inventor and created an infographic based on their research.

The following video illustrates my research on the topic, the project I implemented, and the results of the project.

Reflection

My research before designing and implementing this project highlighted the benefits of using infographics in classroom instruction and assessment. Infographics provide students with experience creating and understanding visual communication. They are engaging because they allow students to be creative and explore information and expression in a way traditional assessments, like a research paper, would not. Overall they also prepare students for adult life where they may be asked to communicate information in a variety of ways, rarely is one of those ways as a formal research paper. My students enjoyed the project because it allowed them to create and share information in a format that they were more comfortable with. It was a low risk assignment because they did not have to worry about perfecting the conventions of a paper. Rather they were free to delve deep into the content and the portray it in whatever way felt right to them as long as the key points were included.
